Is there an application for the HOPE Scholarship?
Yes, the application for the HOPE Scholarship is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be accessed by visiting studentaid.gov. HOPE Scholarship recipients MUST complete a FAFSA every year by September 1 to receive Fall funds and by February 1 to receive Spring/Summer funds. We encourage all students to complete the FAFSA as soon as possible beginning October 1 of each year for next academic year.
How much can I receive from the HOPE Scholarship?
Lottery scholarship amounts vary, depending on the particular awards for which the student is eligible. The base scholarship, the HOPE Scholarship, will depend on when it is first received and the grade level of the student. Specific award amounts are defined by the TN Student Assistance Corporation. Please review and then refer to your award summary using the "Financial Aid" tool your MyMocsNet.
Can I use the HOPE Scholarship for any school I choose?
No, you must enroll in an eligible TN public college, university, or private college (or an out-of-state regionally accredited college, university, private college) within 16 months following high school graduation. Enrollment in an ineligible TN institution (or non-regionally accredited out-of-state institution) any time after high school graduation will make the student permanently ineligible. Appeals are not accepted for this HOPE rule regardless of the situation.
I know that I am eligible for HOPE, but it is not showing on my account. Where is it?
If you are eligible to receive the HOPE Scholarship and it does not show on the "Financial Aid" tool your MyMocsNet account, you must confirm the following information prior to contacting the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office.
-
Does the UTC Office of Undergraduate Admissions have your final high school transcript? The final high school transcript is one sent after high school graduation with the high school graduation date and final GPA listed.
-
Does the UTC Office of Undergraduate Admissions have an official copy of your ACT/SAT scores?
-
Is UTC your school of choice with for the TN HOPE? You can confirm this by following this quick tutorial.
-
Please be aware that if you have graduated from Knox County, Williamson County, or Memphis City Schools, your cumulative final high school GPA could be different than your TN Lottery Scholarship GPA. For HOPE purposes, your eligibility depends upon the TN Lottery Scholarship GPA listed on your final transcript.
Where can I find my HOPE GPA and how many attempted hours I have?
To find your HOPE GPA, you must go through the "Financial Aid" tool your MyMocsNet account. Your HOPE GPA is not listed on your academic transcript. This short MyMocsNet Tutorial will guide you and quickly show you how to find your HOPE GPA.
Are my Dual Enrollment courses counted in my attempted hours for the HOPE?
No, none of your credits received prior to high school graduation are calculated in your attempted hours for the HOPE Scholarship, nor are those grades used in the GPA calculation for this scholarship.
Can I use the HOPE Scholarship over the summer?
Yes, students are allowed to receive the scholarship (and supplements such as the HOPE General Assembly Merit or HOPE Aspire) over the summer. We have a Summer HOPE Information page to answer questions.
I am a Transfer Student, how do I get my HOPE Scholarship at UTC?
Transfer students are largely self-identifying. First, you should make certain your final transcripts (college AND high school) get to UTC. Then, you should confirm that your school of choice for the HOPE Scholarship is UTC by following this quick tutorial. Finally, you should identify yourself with the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office as a Transfer Student AND HOPE Scholarship recipient.
I attended an out-of-state college directly after high school, can I still receive HOPE?
If you attended an out-of-state college directly after high school, you still may be eligible for the HOPE Scholarship. You must have been eligible for the HOPE Scholarship upon high school graduation AND identify yourself with the Financial Aid & Scholarship Office. You must also make certain UTC Undergraduate Admissions has received your transcripts in order for your eligibility to be reviewed.
