Internships

Comm. 4850 Internship Program

All communication majors are required to complete an internship (Comm. 4850) or a directed project (4800) before graduation. The majority of students choose to complete the internship, because it provides valuable work experience prior to graduation.

Planning on Doing a Spring 2025 Internship for Credit?

To be able to do a internship for credit in Spring 2025 you must:

  • meet the internship program requirements (listed below), and
  • apply to the internship program by submitting your digital application by Sept. 27, 2024 (see application procedures)

Internship Program Requirements

Interns must apply the semester before they plan to enroll in Comm. 4850, Individual Internship.

  • For spring 2025 internships the deadline is Sept. 27, 2024
  • For summer/fall 2025 internships, the deadline will be in February 2025
  • If you are doing the internship during the fall or spring semester, we strongly suggest you enroll in no more than 15 credits hours, including the internship.
  • If you are doing the internship during the summer, we strongly suggest you enroll in no more than 9 credit hours, including the internship.

To apply, students must have:

  1. completed COMM 1100
  2. completed COMM 2300
  3. completed COMM 2310 or 2330
  4. completed or be enrolled in COMM 4510
  5. completed or be enrolled in at least two upper level communication skills courses (skills courses include COMM 3010, 3020, 3310, 3350, 3370, 3400, 3450, 3500, 3600, 3610, 3620, 3630, 3700, 4010, 4020, 4350, 4400, 4420, 4450, 4550, 4600, 4700, 4750, 4820)

  6. a minimum 2.0 overall GPA, 2.0 institutional GPA, and a 2.0 GPA in communication
