SciENcv Guide
Beginning October 23, 2023, NSF will require the use of SciENcv to prepare both the Biographical Sketches and Current & Pending Support documents. Other federal agencies are likely to follow suit. More information about SciENcv and how to use it is provided below.

What is SciENcv?
SciENcv (Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae) is an online program powered by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) that helps researchers assemble the professional information needed for participation in federally funded research. SciENcv helps researchers to gather and compile their information on their applicable expertise, employment, education and professional accomplishments.
NIH eRA Commons, NSF, and ORCID account holders who have linked their accounts to NCBI can populate their SciENcv profiles with the information stored in these accounts. The information transferred to SciENcv can be changed, hidden, augmented, or deleted as the researcher decides. SciENcv users control the content displayed in their SciENcv profiles.
Account Registration and Log In
To use SciENcv, you must first have an account with My NCBI.
- If you do not have a My NCBI account
-
Use a third-party account to create a new account with My NCBI. Third-party accounts include eRA Commons, Google, ORCID, Login.gov, etc. You can also use your UTC account.
Sign up for My NCBI with your UTC account
Sign up for My NCBI with another account
Once your account is created, you can link additional third-party accounts to your My NCBI account in the Account Settings tab.
- If you have a My NCBI account
-
You can access SciENcv in two ways:
- Log into My NCBI using one of the third-party accounts you linked to your My NCBI account. Locate the SciENcv portlet on the main Dashboard page and click “Manage SciENcv”.
- Log into the SciENcv portlet directly.
Creating Documents in SciENcv
- Biosketches
-
There are three ways to create a biosketch in SciENcv:
- Manually enter your information into a SciENcv template
- Make a duplicate of an existing biosketch
- Automated data feed from an external source – such as PubMed, ORCID, etc.
Help guides for specific biosketch tasks are available below:
- Creating a Bibliography (for Products/Publications)
- Integrating with ORCID Creating NSF biosketches
- Creating NIH biosketches
- Current and Pending Support
-
The Current and Pending Support form can only be created manually. A help guide is available here.
Delegates
You can add a delegate (such as a GRA or a Pre-Award Services team member) to view and manage your documents in SciENcv. Delegates can create and modify documents but cannot download or certify document contents.
The option to Add a delegate is available through the Accounts Settings page. The Delegates section of the Account Settings page displays a list of all the delegates granted access to either your My Bibliography collection or your SciENcv, or both. In the Delegates section you may add or remove delegates as well as modify the access granted, see ‘Adding and Removing Delegates.’
