Who Qualifies?
Undergraduate students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga who are classified as seniors and are within 30 hours of completion of their first bachelor’s degree with a minimum required overall GPA (see program for details) are eligible to participate in a joint undergraduate to master's program.
Application and Approval:
Applications to JUMP may be submitted online when the student has reached junior status and is in the last semester before their final year. Students must speak with the graduate program coordinator prior to applying to receive pre-approval. You can find program contacts on our Graduate Programs page. After receiving program and Graduate School approval, the student will be admitted to JUMP in the senior year (when they are within 30 hours of completion). Students admitted to JUMP will begin coursework related to the graduate degree when they are within 30 hours of completing the undergraduate degree.
Upon completion of the undergraduate degree, meeting graduate continuation standards, and completing an application to the Graduate School, the student’s level will be changed from undergraduate to graduate.
How to Apply
To apply, click the link below and it will take you to the UTC Application Portal. You will be applying to the Joint Undergraduate to Masters Program (JUMP) from a drop-down list from "Other Applications".
Use the same email address and password as you used to complete your admissions application to UTC. Once logged in, select the blue button that says, "Other Applications" and you will see the option to select "JUMP Application" from that drop down.
Once you have been accepted, make an appointment with your UG Advisor to review your course registration, etc.
Credit Hours
Students in JUMP may take up to 9 graduate hours with departmental approval. Individual JUMP programs have the option of limiting the number of graduate hours taken. Graduate coursework successfully completed with a “B” or better will apply to the graduate degree.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I need to be within 30 hours of graduating and have the minimum GPA when I apply and/or when I start JUMP?
A: Both. At the time of applying to JUMP, applicants must meet the eligibility requirements. Credit hours and GPAs will be checked once courses are completed and grades are posted prior to the start of a JUMP semester. If an applicant was previously accepted into JUMP but then is no longer within 30 hours of completion or is under the GPA minimum, their major will be changed to the traditional major and any JUMP courses they registered for will be dropped. They will need to reregister for any equivalent UG courses.
Q: My overall GPA is close to the minimum requirement but I expect it to be at the minimum requirement after this semester. Can I apply now for JUMP even though my GPA is just less than the requirement?
A: We recommend you wait until your overall GPA is at or above the minimum before you apply. Your application will not be reviewed by the Application Committee unless your overall GPA currently meets the minimum requirement.
Q: What is the minimum grade I must earn in my graduate courses for them to count toward my degree requirements?
A: JUMP students must earn an A or B in a graduate course for it to be considered toward completion of their graduate degree. Any grade lower than a B may only be applied to their undergraduate program.
Q: How can I make changes to my JUMP courses?
A: Visit with your Advisor to learn how any changes to your JUMP courses will affect the completion of your undergraduate degree. If you are receiving financial aid/scholarships, check with the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to see if this will be impacted by any changes.
