Yes, the BAS-AL is a degree completion program. A degree completion program is an academic program specifically designed for adult students who have started, but have not yet finished, a four-year undergraduate degree. By accepting some or all of the credits that a student has already earned from their previous education, degree completion programs offer students an alternative to starting over. Degree completion programs come in many different varieties in order to appeal to different kinds of students and learners. In order to maximize the likelihood of completion, it is important for students to choose a program that best aligns with their personal learning preferences. 

The BAS-AL program offers a viable path forward for anyone who has started a college education and maintains a desire to finish it, regardless of background or personal motivation. Some examples of the kinds of students who often enroll in degree completion programs include:

• Community college students who have earned an associate degree and wish to further their education
• Those who began their bachelor’s degree but did not finish it
• Adult learners who already have years or even decades of career and prior learning experience, but who have started and not yet finished an undergraduate baccalaureate degree
• Veterans and service members who want to leverage their existing experience to earn a bachelor’s degree 

As each student enters the program, s/he will work individually with a program advisor to complete a program of study that will outline all of the coursework for the program, including transfer credits, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), and future coursework needed in addition to the core courses. The program advisor will be available for individual appointments via video conferencing and will communicate regularly with advisees via email.

The majority of core courses in this program are offered online in a 7-week format. Students can take up to four courses (or 12 credit hours) a semester (Fall, Spring, or Summer). The number of credit hours taken each semester should be discussed with the program advisor and reflective of the student’s personal and work schedules.

Yes, we offer flexible options to take classes online, on a full or part-time basis, making it possible to earn a degree while balancing career, family, or other personal obligations. 

A minimum of 39 hours at the 3000-4000 level is required for the degree. The core includes 30 of these 39 hours. 

Yes, students will produce a series of written documents that will be components of the final culminating project, the Capstone Project. Each individual component will be reflective of seminal concepts of the BAS-AL degree program, and the final document will incorporate feedback from the previous submissions, along with the appropriate literature. Additionally, students will develop and record a presentation highlighting and summarizing the culminated learning developed in the Capstone Project written papers.

Yes, we accept transfer credits—including military training and prior work experience—so students can pick up where they left off and build upon their prior learning. Students may transfer hours from an accredited two- or four-year institution. To learn more about the procedure for earning transfer credit, please schedule an appointment with the program advisor.

Students may be awarded up to 60 hours of PLA credit for Military Service. Military Service courses and/or experiences are evaluated and equated following the American Council on Education (ACE) recommendations. Office of the University Registrar personnel evaluate the Military Service work with the support of ACE guidelines and the appropriate academic department. Credit not equated by ACE may be awarded departmental elective credit or Military Service Elective credit as appropriate. 

120 total credit hours are required.

A 2.0 GPA is required in all required major and related courses (including specified General Education courses).

As an offering from a state-supported institution, the BAS-AL tuition and fees are more affordable than similar programs offered at private institutions.
