Peer Mentors

Student Success Programs has many opportunities for current UTC students to become employed as SSP Peer Mentors. We use Peer Mentors to help staff First Year Experience, and First Gen Mocs programming. These are paid positions. Throughout the year, SSP Peer Mentors may also be asked to volunteer to staff certain First-Year Experience-related events, such as Read to Achieve’s First Class and Mocs Flock Finley.
- USTU 1250- The First-year Experience (Fall only)
The First Year Experience course, often referred to as FYE, is a course that introduces students learning in and out of the classroom and the community and culture at UTC. The peer mentor will work closely with the instructor in planning and preparation for the course, including attending each class, assisting students with the transition to UTC and coordinating out-of-class activities.
- First Gen Mocs Mentor (Fall only)
The FGM Mentor serves as important resource and guide for incoming first generation students. Mentors play an integral role in helping new mocs transition into UTC through intentional interactions.
