Ready to Choose UTC

Baker Transfer

Sarah Catherine chose to transfer

Sarah Catherine Baker didn’t think UTC was the campus for her—at first. After having been home schooled, she chose to start her college education at a small, private school, but she just didn’t find everything she wanted. “I wanted a school that was a little bigger. UTC was just what I was looking for.” Since transferring to UTC as a Communication major, Baker has joined the newspaper staff as a sports reporter and a campus ministry as well as becoming an orientation leader. She hopes her UTC education will prepare her to be an international representative for a large nonprofit or organization, but for right now, she’s taking advantage of every opportunity UTC has to offer.

Ortiz Investment

Nathaniel Ortiz chose investment

Nathaniel Ortiz expects to hit a home run with his UTC biology degree. He’s looking at a career in biotechnological and clinical research. He meets goals, like leading the UTC Club Baseball team to the Division II World Series—and bringing back the trophy and a Number 1 national ranking for the team. “I found that Chattanooga was a growing city with a university that was doing the same—whether it was academically, athletically, or aesthetically. UTC was the best option to promote my personal growth by being in an environment where good change was the norm.”

Sherrell Diversity

Kacie chose diversity

Kacie Sherrell, an elementary education major from Collierville, Tennessee, had lots of options when she was looking for a college, and she thought UTC was going to be at the bottom of her list. But, was she wrong! “I ultimately chose UTC because the campus is diverse and I believed these are opportunities for me to grow into the leader I want to be.” Something told her to give UTC a chance, and she did in a big way. Her list of campus activities runs from a sorority sister to an orientation leader to a PAWS mentor. “You have to put yourself out there or you might miss an opportunity.”

Wampler Opportunity

Caleb chose opportunity

Caleb Wampler has set some priorities for his life. Being part of a spiritual community is important to him. So is succeeding in his career—he aspires to work in the sports entertainment field. As a Chattanooga Mocs Athletics intern, he’s gaining the professional experience he’ll need to make it after graduation. And UTC offers opportunities to meet his personal needs as well. “UTC was somewhere I could see myself preparing for the rest of my life.”
