Office of Multicultural Affairs
Divisional Updates and Structural Changes for Fall 2025
Tennessee recently enacted legislation that prohibits public colleges and universities from using demographic characteristics such as race, ethnicity, sex, or age in employment decisions. These laws also prevent the establishment of offices or departments dedicated specifically to programs and initiatives focused on groups or students of a particular race, ethnicity, sex, or sexual orientation.
As a public institution, UTC is required to comply with these laws. This means we must carefully review departmental operations to ensure campus funds are not used in a manner that is inconsistent with state and federal law and guidance.
As part of this process, Multicultural Affairs is transitioning to come into compliance with state law. We recognize that change can bring uncertainty, and we want to reassure our community that what will not change is our unwavering commitment to students. Our focus remains on supporting the success and well-being of every student at UTC.
UTC will continue to provide robust resources, meaningful support, and a caring environment where each student has the opportunity to thrive. I encourage you to visit our Student Affairs homepage to explore ongoing student support services designed to serve all members of our community.
