Historic Preservation Minor
Historic preservation is a multi-disciplinary field that preserves structures, neighborhoods, landscapes, and cultures. The minor in Historic Preservation will create an opportunity for undergraduate students to work directly with preservationist and to make a positive impact on the community.
The IARC Program partners with Preserve Chattanooga on two historic preservation initiatives, one of which includes the minor in historic preservation.



Historic Preservation Minor Requirements
Required Courses:
- ANTH 4500 - Archives, Collection Management, and Curation
- IARC 3230 - History of American Domestic Architecture
- IARC 3500 - Introduction to Historic Preservation
- IARC 3510 - Field Documentation of Historic Buildings
Elective Courses: (6 hours selected from)
- ANTH 4300R - Archaeological Field Methods
- ANTH 4400 - Archaeological Laboratory Methods
- HIST 2030 - History of Tennessee (CZ or HF)
- HIST 2100 - Research and Writing in History (WC)
- HIST 3405 - American Public History

- IARC 4590 - Historic Preservation Field Practicum
- IARC 4998R - Individual Studies
- IARC 4999R - Group Studies
Additional Information:
Minimum 2.0 average in the minor.
Six credit hours may be applied to a major/concentration.
Eight credit hours must be at the 3000 level or above.
