Conference Description
This conference will address how to accurately assess and appropriately treat chronic pain in patients from an interdisciplinary perspective. The conference will include keynote speakers and breakout sessions that address the 12 core competencies for pain education as identified by the Tennessee Commission on Pain and Addiction Medicine Education.
Conference Objectives
- Increase an understanding of practical aspects of pain evaluation and diagnosis
- Share knowledge of practical aspects of prescribing and communication
- Give examples of chronic pain treatment plans, including interprofessional aspects
- Provide education on addressing the opioid epidemic, including substance use and overdose management risks.
The 12 core competencies for pain education:
- Epidemiology and population level
- Pain evaluation
- Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment
- Practical aspects of prescribing and communication
- Conflict prevention and resolution
- Chronic pain plans
- Acute pain care for chronic pain patients
- Interoffice and interprofessional focus
- Substance use disorder risk evaluation
- Development of a treatment plan for the patient with substance use disorder
- Management of overdose risk
- Professional and legal standards
