ABSN Program Director's Message
As we move into the summer months, the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program continues at a fast pace as one cohort prepares to graduate in August, another progresses through the curriculum, and our newest cohort begins their nursing journey. Our ABSN program offers students who already hold a bachelor’s degree the opportunity to earn a BSN in just three semesters, creating an intensive and rewarding pathway into the nursing profession.
Since stepping into the role of Program Director in January, I continue to be inspired by the engagement, resilience, and collaboration demonstrated by our students and faculty. One of the greatest strengths of our program is the sense of connection across all three cohorts as students continue to encourage and support one another through both the challenges and meaningful moments that come with accelerated nursing education.
This summer also brings exciting opportunities for continued innovation within the program. Faculty Katie Parker and Savannah Kelley were awarded a Walker Center for Teaching and Learning High-Impact Practices Grant to support the integration of virtual reality simulation experiences into the second semester of the ABSN curriculum. This initiative will enhance student engagement while expanding immersive approaches to clinical and simulation learning.
We are also proud to celebrate ABSN student Kate Powers, BHS, MPH, who was recognized as a recipient of the 2026 March of Dimes Graduate Nursing Scholarship Award in partnership with Pampers, honoring her dedication to improving maternal and infant health.
As we look ahead, we continue to plan for future growth to support increasing the number of exceptional nurses serving our community. We remain committed to expanding access to nursing education, embracing new opportunities for learning, and preparing students to meet the evolving healthcare needs of our region with confidence and compassion.

Congratulations to Dr. Brooke Epperson, on her election to the UTC Alumni Board! Dr. Epperson has been a dedicated member of the College of Nursing faculty since 2016, and her election reflects the deep respect she has earned across the university community. We are proud to see her continued commitment to UTC recognized in this new role, and we look forward to the contributions she will make to the Alumni Board.
