Music in the Elementary Classroom
Elementary classroom teachers and administrators
Participants explore techniques and strategies for guiding developmentally appropriate music activities to enrich, extend, and enliven the elementary classroom experience. Topical focus can be negotiated.

Participants explore techniques and strategies for guiding developmentally appropriate music activities among our youngest learners.

Curriculum and Instruction: Bloom's Taxonomy in the Arts
K-12 educators and administrators
Participants are introduced to Bloom’s Taxonomy as a framing structure for lesson development in the arts and across the curriculum. Educators are guided to reflect on and refine their own lessons as they as they develop scaffolded procedures and align objectives and assessments in their own work.

Curriculum & Instruction: Assessing Student Performance in Music
K-12 music educators and administrators
Participants explore a variety of formative and summative assessment strategies suitable to music instruction in a variety of settings (general, choral, instrumental). Repertoire selection and sequence of instruction will coax educators to embrace the learning process beyond simple performance preparation.

Curriculum & Instruction: Inquiry-Based Arts Instruction
K-12 educators and administrators
Shifting instruction from telling to asking is the focus of this pedagogical exploration. Educators are introduced to a constructivist philosophy and guided to consider a student-centered practice. Instructional practices, curricular examples, and organizational strategies are examined.

Instructional Design & Curriculum Development in Music
K-12 music educators (individual or group)
Through consultation, research, and collaborative planning SCEA supports music educators in the development of a scaffolded and sequential curriculum addressing developmentally appropriate student needs and aligning with district, state, and national standards in music education.

Music in the Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Arts Integration
K-12 administrators and educators, visiting artists
Participants experience the practice and pedagogy of arts integration through the SCEA model of concept-based instruction. Music is partnered with core curriculum such as math, reading, or social studies. Issues of instructional design and delivery, performance task assessment tools and strategies, and collaborative practice are modeled though active engagement as well as analysis and reflection.

Music and Language Arts: Arts Integration
preK – 4th grade administrators and educators, visiting artists
Participants experience the practice and pedagogy of arts integration through the SCEA model of concept-based instruction. The processes of language (listening, speaking, reading and writing) and fundamental music processes (listening, singing, moving, reading and writing) are explored and aligned through musical and kinesthetic experiences appropriate to the preK – 4th grade classroom. Issues of instructional design and delivery, performance task assessment tools and strategies, and collaborative practice are modeled though active engagement as well as analysis and reflection.

Music in the Interdisciplinary Curriculum: Lesson and Unit Planning
K-12 administrators and educators, visiting artists, school-wide staff
Grade-level teams work together to plan arts-integrated instruction aligning curriculum to suit their specific instructional plans or yearly calendar. The SCEA concept-based model of instructional design is implemented as a planning tool. District, state, and national standards frame the planning process and performance task assessments are created to evaluate student growth.
