CommuniCreate - Overview
Overview
SCEA partnered with Barger Academy of Fine Arts, a K-5 Hamilton County Department of Education (HCDE) magnet school, to develop CommuniCREATE, a multifaceted project aimed at increasing parental involvement through providing access to experiential opportunities in the arts for K-12 students and their families. During the 2013-2014 school year, quarterly CommuniCREATE events occurred at Barger Academy where students had the opportunity to engage in arts learning experiences with their families. Families participated in one workshop during each CommuniCREATE event as a way to build art form understanding in hopes that by the end of the year all participants engaged in arts learning experiences across each art form.
Supported by the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, SCEA in partnership with Barger Academy developed a CommuniCREATE resource kit accessible to educators and organizations across the Chattanooga community.
The resource kit includes:
- Video recorded excerpts from CommuniCREATE workshops in drama, visual art, dance, and music.
- Family friendly arts learning guides based on the new core arts standards.
- Findings from our pilot project including a downloadable survey that can be adapted based on your program needs.
- Logistical overview that includes a planning breakdown, marketing ideas, and tips for engaging parent volunteers.
