CommuniCreate - Arts Learning Experiences

During each CommuniCREATE event, families attended one workshop in drama, visual art, dance, or music. Each workshop provided an opportunity for Barger students and families to actively engage in arts learning experiences that aligned with literacy. The purpose of each workshop was to build art form understanding and help Barger families develop a common vocabulary for describing arts learning. Our goal was to go beyond exposing Barger families to arts activities and provide an opportunity to highlight skills and knowledge that can only be taught through artistic disciplines. All arts learning experiences were framed around the artistic process, which provided a lens for families to consider as they attended workshops in each art form. The artistic process as described in each arts learning guiding stems from the artistic literacy definition underpinning the new National Core Arts Standards in drama, visual art, dance, and music.
