We have the answers to your questions. Read our FAQs!
- Do I have to take all the courses in the A Moc’s First Year community?
-
Yes! Part of your commitment to participate in A Moc’s First Year is that you are agreeing to enroll in the 2-3 selected courses of the learning community. This provides you with the opportunity to interact in several courses with other cohort students. The instructors have worked together to find connection points between your classes and build a community as you join the UTC family.
You must enroll in each of the specific classes/sections for your learning community. This will be done for you at Orientation. If you have questions, speak with your academic advisor. - Can I drop a class in A Moc’s First Year?
-
No. The courses in A Moc’s First Year are packaged together and allow you to form a community of peers. At the heart of a cohort is taking two or more classes in common.
Please speak to your academic advisor, if you no longer believe your selected learning community is the right fit for you. There is potential to enroll in the non-FYE course in a non-cohort section if space is available. - Who can enroll in A Moc’s First Year?
-
A Moc’s First Year is open to all incoming first-year students at UTC. This is our first year and space is limited so make sure to sign up early!
Some sections of A Moc’s First Year are designed for students in particular majors. For example, all incoming ART majors will enroll in the “First Year Foundations Art” learning communities. Your advisor will confirm that you need to enroll in a major-specific learning community during registration. Learn more about each of the A Mocs First Year communities.
Currently, A Moc’s First Year does not have learning communities for transfer students. - When do I enroll in A Moc’s First Year?
-
When registering for orientation, you fill out the Academic Interest Questionnaire (AIQ). This helps your academic advisor understand your interests. After completing the AIQ, you can sign up for a community. This information will be used along with the AIQ to sign you up for the right A Mocs First Year community.
You will find out at orientation which community you are joining. - Does it cost extra to participate in A Moc’s First Year?
-
