Adaptive Tai Chi Chuan for Instructors
Training for Healthcare Providers
The Wheelchair/Adaptive Tai Chi Chuan program provides training workshops to equip VA healthcare providers with the skills needed to train veterans. Healthcare providers include professionals M.D., Ph.D. in psychology, physical therapists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, registered nurses, and social workers who work in pain and PTSD clinics.
During spring and summer 2021, the Wheelchair/Adaptive Tai Chi program will conduct 3-day adaptive TCC instructor workshops will be offered to train approximately 195 healthcare providers at 13 VA medical centers located in 11 states including Cheyenne VAMC (WY), VA North Texas HCS (Dallas, TX) , Bruce W. Carter VAMC (Miami, FL), Montana VA HCS (Ft. Harrison, MT), VA New York Harbor HCS (NY, NY), 2VA HCS (Oklahoma City, OK), VA Sierra Nevada HCS (Reno, NV), Central Texas VA HCS (Temple, TX), Wilmington VAMC (DE), Samuel S. Stratton VAMC (Albany, NY), Rocky Mountain Regional VAMC (Denver, CO), Mann-Grandstaff VAMC (Spokane, WA), Long Beach VAHCS (Long Beach, CA).
Healthcare Providers Advanced Training Certification
In collaboration with the Adaptive Tai Chi International, the second annual Wheelchair/Adaptive Tai Chi Instructor Advanced Training Workshop will be held at UTC in summer 2021. The workshop follows the train-the-trainer model of instruction to train additional healthcare providers who will conduct Tai Chi training classes for veterans.
