The Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announces the Marlowe Scholarship Program for Transfer Students for 2023. An award of $1,800 (over 2 years) will be presented to one entering transfer student each Fall majoring in Physics. This award is only available to first-time undergraduate students. Once awarded this scholarship is automatically renewed for one year provided the student meets specific academic requirements. The Marlowe scholarship can be added to other University scholarships and the Tennessee HOPE Lottery scholarship. The Robert Marlowe Scholarship fund was established in 1999 by Betsy Marlowe Bush in honor of her husband, Harold Marlowe, and son, Professor Robert Marlowe (served UTC from 1985 to 2020). It is open to all applicants regardless of race, color, creed, or sex with the following qualifications:
- Complete two courses in physics at prior institution with an A or B
- Complete at least 60 hours at prior institution(s), or earn an Associate’s Degree
- Attain a grade point average of 3.5 or above at prior institution
- Declare physics as the major at UTC
While the Marlowe is a merit scholarship, financial need will also be considered during the selection process. Eligible majors include all BS Physics degrees (including physics, biophysics, and STEM education concentrations). An undergraduate degree in physics is ideal for anyone with an interest in medicine, research, education, industry, patent law, or other science and technology related areas.
