Marlowe Transfer Scholarship
The Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga announces the Marlowe Scholarship Program for Transfer Students for 2024. An award of $1,800 (over 2 years) will be presented to one entering transfer student each Fall majoring in Physics. This award is only available to first-time undergraduate students. Once awarded this scholarship is automatically renewed for one year provided the student meets specific academic requirements. The Marlowe scholarship can be added to other University scholarships and the Tennessee HOPE Lottery scholarship. The Robert Marlowe Scholarship fund was established in 1999 by Betsy Marlowe Bush in honor of her husband, Harold Marlowe, and son, Professor Robert Marlowe (served UTC from 1985 to 2020). It is open to all applicants regardless of race, color, creed, or sex with the following qualifications:
- Complete two courses in physics at prior institution with an A or B
- Complete at least 60 hours at prior institution(s), or earn an Associate’s Degree
- Attain a grade point average of 3.5 or above at prior institution
- Declare physics as the major at UTC
While the Marlowe is a merit scholarship, financial need will also be considered during the selection process. Eligible majors include all BS Physics degrees (including physics, biophysics, and STEM education concentrations). An undergraduate degree in physics is ideal for anyone with an interest in medicine, research, education, industry, patent law, or other science and technology related areas.
To apply, click the link above and it will take you to the UTC Application Portal. You will use the same email address and password as you used to complete your admissions application to UTC. Once logged in, select the blue button that says, "Other Applications" and you will see the option to select "Marlowe Scholarship" from that drop down.
A separate “Application for Admission” to the university must be submitted directly to the Office of Admissions at UTC by June 1, 2024. The completed Marlowe application (submitted online) and two letters of recommendation (emailed) are due July 10, 2024.
Announcement of the awards will be made in middle to late July.
