About Dr. Nebel
Dr. Cindy Nebel is the Director of Learning Services at St. Louis University School of Medicine. She has broad interests in applying the science of learning to educational contexts and has published numerous books and journal articles on the subject. She has presented on the science of learning at many conferences in the U.S. and abroad to students and educators in higher education, K-12, medical schools, corporate organizations, and government entities. Dr. Nebel is passionate about promoting dialogue between researcher and practitioners as an active collaborator of The Learning Scientists.

Teaching Alongside AI Virtual Roundtables
We’re dedicating this day to exploring use of AI in the classroom. These roundtable-style Zoom sessions will be 45 minutes long and will foreground how UTC faculty are teaching alongside AI. (We’re working on adding a few more disciplines to this list in the next few weeks.) Feel free to register for any that interest you!

Wednesday, August 14th
New (and Seasoned) Faculty Bus Tour
Bengt Carlson and Chris Johnson will be hosting a bus tour of Chattanooga to help new faculty acclimate to our area and explore place-based learning opportunities in Chattanooga. Stops on the tour will address the background of various sites and discussion about how the city can become part of your classroom. This is primarily for new faculty, but we might have some space for more seasoned faculty, as well.

Canvas Basics Boot Camp
For those hoping for some concentrated instruction on how to use Canvas effectively, we’ve got you covered. These virtual sessions are designed to let you drop in and out as needed.

Let’s wrap up Week Zero with an ice cream social in the Walker Center (Library 433). All faculty, adjuncts, and administration should drop in and out as your schedule allows (or as long as the ice cream holds out).
