Application
- How do I apply?
Applying to HRLI is a two-step process. Please fill out the participant application form and then ask your manager to fill out the application approval form via the corresponding links below.
- Are there eligibility requirements to apply?
Participants must currently be in an HR role to apply.
- Does application submission guarantee acceptance into the Institute?
Application submission does NOT guarantee acceptance into the Institute. A maximum of 15 applicants will be accepted in order to keep the class size small enough to allow individuals to receive personalized attention from the instructors but also be large enough to network with a diverse group of HR professionals.
- What is the application window for Spring 2025?
The application window for the Spring 2025 HR Leadership Institute Cohort is now open through November 15.
Attendance
- What are the attendance requirements?
Participants are allowed a maximum of 3 absences of 15 sessions. The 15 sessions include orientation but do not include graduation (as attendance is not required at graduation).
If participants miss more than three sessions, they will be removed without a refund. Extenuating circumstances will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- Are SHRM recertification credits based on attendance?
Yes. SHRM-certified participants receive 40 recertification credits upon successful completion of the program. Participants can only miss three sessions. If more than three sessions are missed, participants are no longer eligible for the recertification credits.
Cost
- How much does the program cost?
$3,195 Southeast TN SHRM Members
$3,395 Non-Southeast TN SHRM Members
- How do I submit an invoice for my employer to pay for the program?
UTC will provide an invoice for you to submit to your employer. Invoices will be sent out by December 9 and must be paid in full by January 8.
Format
- What is the course format?
The course will be in held in-person at UTC.
- When do sessions take place?
Orientation for the Spring 2025 sessions will be held on January 15. Course sessions will then take place on Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., starting on January 29 until May 14. Graduation will take place on May 21; while graduation is not required, it is encouraged that all participants attend and celebrate their accomplishments

Participants are expected to attend the 3.5 hour in-person sessions as well as spend one hour outside of class time on homework assignments each week (totalling 4.5 hours per week).
Remember that the investment is not just an investment of time but also an investment in your professional development and organization.

- How I will receive materials?
You will receive your materials at HRLI Orientation.
- What resources do I need to bring to the program?
You are welcome to bring your laptop to take notes and access online materials through CANVAS. Other than that, you just need to bring yourself and a pen!
Post-Program
- What will I receive upon completion of the program?
Participants will receive an award as well as a certificate of completion. The program also qualifies for 4.0 CEUs.

Registration Fee:
$3,195 Southeast TN SHRM Members
$3,395 Non-Southeast TN SHRM Members
UTC accepts payment from organizations that are sponsoring employees to attend HRLI. If an individual is accepted and company-sponsored, UTC will invoice the employer for payment.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
If a registration is canceled for any reason, the individual or organization making the original tuition payment will receive: (1) a refund of 75%, if the cancellation request is received in writing prior to 15 days before the orientation start date; (2) a refund of 50%, if the cancellation request is received in writing less than 15 days before the orientation start date; (3) no refund for a ‘No Show’ or for a cancellation request received on the orientation date or after the course is in progress. Note: The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga reserves the right to cancel the course due to low enrollment. If a course is canceled due to low enrollment, registration fees are refunded in full.
