SimCenter: Bioinformatics
Health Informatics and Biological Systems
The SimCenter’s Health Informatics and Biomedical Systems (HIBS) Focus Area collaborates with biomedical scientists from across the UTC and University of Tennessee Health Science Center’s College of Medicine Chattanooga (UTCOMC) campuses to develop computational solutions for their research projects.
- The SimCenter core services can become an integral part of each project, actively engaging in experimental design, data analysis, publication authorship and grant writing.
- With access to in-house high-performance computing infrastructure, health informatics and biomedical scientists are able to perform a wide range of bioinformatics and statistical data analysis tasks in the areas of genomics, metagenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, epidemiological studies and electronic health record data mining.
- In addition, this focus area can also specialize in developing web-based databases along with serving as a repository of national and international public use databases to help researchers with data management and analyses.
Funding opportunities for projects in the health informatics and biomedical systems area include:
- National Institutes of Health (NIH);
- National Science Foundation (NSF);
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention;
- American Heart and Stroke Associations (AHA and ASA);
- American Diabetes Association (ADA);
- American Lung Association (ALA),
- and other voluntary health organizations;
- The CDC Foundation;
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation;
- Robert Wood Johnson Foundation,
- and other national, regional, and local foundations dedicated to health disparities and outcomes.
