Pre-Law PSPS Students
UTC media

The UTC Department of Political Science and Public Service is a great home for pre-law students.
Here’s how we support our pre-law students:
- Dedicated pre-law advisor
A PSPS professor serves as a dedicated pre-law advisor, which requires ongoing training by the Pre-Law Advisors National Council.
- Pre-law programming
The pre-law advisor offers programming for pre-law freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, guiding students through the process of exploring law careers, selecting law schools, preparing for the LSAT, and interviewing for law school admission.
- Mock Trial
PSPS hosts UTC’s Mock Trial team, which routinely competes and wins awards in national competitions (so much that we had to buy a trophy case!).
- Pre-Law Society
PSPS hosts the Pre-Law Society, a student-led group that organizes LSAT test preparation groups, law school visits, speaker events, and social activities for pre-law students.
- Courses in Public Law
We offer robust coursework in the area of Public Law, including Introduction to Judicial Process, Justice and the American Trial Process, American Constitutional Law, Civil Liberties, and a wide range of courses on advanced topics in Public Law. In addition to our Public Law faculty, courses are occasionally taught by seasoned attorneys and judges. Any PSPS major or minor can enroll in these courses. Many pre-law students pursue the PSPS concentration in Public Law to take a deep dive into how political scientists think about the law.
