About PSPS
The Department of Political Science and Public Service equips people to examine, refine, and promote, through political and voluntary action, their conceptions of a good society. We provide UTC undergraduate and graduate students with high quality instruction in the diverse fields of political science, public administration, and nonprofit management through our bachelor’s, master’s, certificate, and badge programs.
Academic programs
For undergraduate students, we offer Bachelor of Science in Political Science degree with six concentration options:
- American politics
- International and comparative studies
- Public law
- Public policy
- Public administration and nonprofit management
- Politics (a general, flexible concentration allowing combinations of courses from the other concentrations)
We offer two undergraduate minors:
- Political science
- Public administration and nonprofit management

At the graduate level, the department also offers the Master of Public Administration degree, with three tracks:
- Local government management concentration
- Nonprofit management concentration
- Generalist track (a flexible, “build your own” concentration option)
The department also offers a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management for students who already have a master’s degree in a related field or significant nonprofit management experience.

All students may earn a Badge in Applied Politics to gain skills in the practice of politics, such as campaign management, advocacy, lobbying, and election administration. Learn more about our badge program.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, we are temporarily located on the 2nd floor of the 540 McCallie Building while our 4th floor office space undergoes renovations. Take the elevators closest to the north entrance of the building (the side entrance facing McCallie Avenue). The office suite is immediately outside of the 2nd floor elevator lobby.
