Insurance
- Request Proof of UTC Insurance Coverage
-
A Certificate of Insurance (COI) is an official document providing the essential details of The University of Tennessee’s insurance coverages and limits to an outside organization. Outside organizations typically request a certificate of insurance when the University has a written contract that requires insurance or when the University is holding an event or activity at an off-campus location.
The University of Tennessee, as an agency of the State of Tennessee, self-insures its exposures in general liability, professional malpractice, and workers’ compensation. Click here to request proof of this coverage.

- Equipment Insurance (Inland Marine)
-
Although The University of Tennessee carries property insurance to cover losses to university-owned or leased property and contents, there are limitations. Departments may opt to insure high-value equipment through UT’s Inland Marine policy, especially when damage or loss would affect a department’s operation.
When a department purchases new equipment that requires Inland Marine coverage, please notify UT's Risk Management at 865-974-5409 and complete the Inland Marine Insurance Request Form by clicking here.
- Insurance and Bonding
-
The UT System Insurance and Bonding Guidelines (IBG) document provides insurance language, coverages, limits, and bonding recommendations for procurement and contracts at the University of Tennessee. This document is intended solely for internal University use and does not create any third-party rights, benefits, claims, or causes of action for parties outside the University.

- Insurance for Campers
-
The Campers’ Insurance Program covers participants in case of accidental death, dismemberment, or incurred medical expense while participating in “scheduled, supervised, and sponsored activities of the Policyholder”. Campers Insurance is excess to other insurance. This helps alleviate most out-of-pocket costs to the family for a covered claim. The purchase of Campers’ Insurance is optional and is dependent upon each department’s discretion.
For more information about how to obtain camper insurance, visit the UT Camper Insurance Program webpage or call 865-974-5409.
- Student Health Insurance
-
The University of Tennessee offers student health insurance for international and domestic students. Dependents of eligible students are also eligible for coverage. For more information, please visit the UT System Risk Management Student Health site.
- Student Professional Liability Information
-
Malpractice risk is always present, even for students. Whether charges are justified or not, students may be vulnerable to lawsuits alleging error(s) and/or negligence while performing duties in field placements as part of the university curriculum. To cover the costs of defending him/herself, The University of Tennessee provides optional professional liability and general liability coverage for student professionals at all UT system campuses. To obtain this coverage, the student must pay the Student Professional Liability annual fee of $10.
