What We Do
Services provided by the UTC’s Office of the Ombudsperson are for any faculty or staff member. The intent is for faculty or staff to seek ombuds services as a first response instead of, or prior to, filing a formal complaint or grievance. Seeking ombuds services in no way changes or eliminates any other formal options available to faculty or staff for resolving a conflict.
Some exmaples of what Ombuds can do include:
- Conflict analysis
- Actively listen to questions and concerns
- Help in identifying strategies to resolve and prevent disputes
- Identification of options and information
- Conflict coaching
- Informal mediation
- Facilitate communication
- Career coach
- Tailored trainings in conflict resolution
- Referrals to appropriate resources
- Annual reporting
- Make recommendations for institutional improvements
- Develop, examine and reality-test options
- Resource for Regulations, Policies and procedures
- Operate under the Code of Ethics and IOA Standards of Practice
Professional Standards: We operate according to the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice established by the International Ombudsman Association (IOA). Please visit the IOA website to learn more about the IOA's Code of Ethics & Standards of Practice.
