Chemistry: the central science!
The program in Chemistry at UTC is designed to prepare students for various career options. The chemistry curriculum provides three B.S. Chemistry degree options. Discuss with your advisor the additional specific preparation you need to do for various post graduation options that require additional schooling such as physician, pharmacist, dentist, or research scientist.
Chemistry Degree Options
The Chemistry concentration is more appropriate for students who want to go directly into the chemical industry or graduate school in chemistry or related fields. The B.S. Chemistry (Chemistry Concentration) program is approved by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society.
Program: Chemistry, B.S. - University of Tennessee, Chattanooga
The Biochemistry concentration is appropriate for students who want to pursue careers and post-baccalaureate studies in health-related fields and interdisciplinary graduate programs.
- BS Chemistry – Preprofessional (including PreMed/PreDent)
The Preprofessional concentration fulfills all pre-professional requirements for pre-dentistry and pre-medicine, which are described in the Pre-Professional Programs section of the catalog.
This concentration is for students who want to earn a chemistry degree and certification to teach high school or middle school science. If you seek additional information, the university STEM Education program website will provide you requirements related to your certification.

Our students graduate with a comprehensive skill-set and knowledge that is not just confined to the study of physics but highly applicable for any area of engineering as well. Our graduates are highly employable as professionals, teachers, and they excel in a number of graduate programs.
