Course Enrollment Request
UTC is committed to protecting the privacy of student education records as outlined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). To support FERPA compliance and the protection of student information privacy, enrollment in Canvas course sites is strictly regulated. Below are the guidelines associated with enrollment in Canvas course sites. If you require a user to be enrolled in your Canvas course site who is not automatically added to the system, please complete the form using the link below. Details associated with the roles and permissions is detailed below.

Requesting Additional Users for Your Course:
Canvas user role permissions allow users to access certain features and perform certain functions within a course site. A user's permissions within the course site are determined by the role the user is assigned. Additional users (designer, teaching assistant, guest teacher, SI Leader) may be added to courses upon request.
When giving access to your course, it is important to select the appropriate level of access in order to protect students’ privacy rights. For course guests who do not need access to student grades, choose from the more restricted role of guest teacher. If you only want to share course content with another instructor, choose the course designer role.

*If you require the same access as a Teacher for the course, you will need to work with your department and the Registrar to be added as a secondary instructor in Banner.
**Designers and guest teachers are not listed in the course People page.
Required Training for Teaching Assistants:
If you have teaching assistants assigned to your courses, please ensure they have completed FERPA training. At UTC, FERPA training is available online and faculty should contact the Registrar at [email protected] to gain access to the training. Once the training is completed, please complete this form to request the teaching assistant be added to your course(s) in Canvas.
Questions related to FERPA or the University’s policies concerning the privacy of students’ education records should be directed to the University Registrar.
Automated Enrollment for Faculty and Students:
Students and instructors are added to UTC Learn course spaces through a Banner feed that updates every two hours. Only officially registered students and assigned instructors are automatically enrolled in UTC Learn course spaces.
