How to Apply
Step 1: Review Admission Requirements and Application Deadlines
- Admission Requirements
-
Applicants must meet the UTC Graduate School’s admission requirements, including a baccalaureate degree completed before the start of graduate coursework.
Applicants still completing undergraduate work are required to submit a transcript in the application process and resubmit a completed transcript once they have graduated from their undergraduate degree.
- Application Deadlines
-
The Counselor Education program admits students every fall into the Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling programs. The applicant deadline is February 1st .
Candidates will begin the interview process late February to the beginning of March. Once accepted, our program always begins the upcoming fall semester.
Step 2: Prepare Application Materials
- Personal Statement
-
As part of the application, you will be asked the following Graduate School Essay Questions. These questions are general in nature and are asked of all graduate applicants.
- Explain your interest in applying and what qualities/experiences you possess that will make you successful in this program.
- How does a graduate degree align with your career goals? Please provide any other information about yourself that will help us evaluate your application.
Along with the two Graduate School Essay Questions, you will also be required to submit a biographical sketch indicating the motivation to become a counselor. You may wish to use the two Graduate School Essay Questions as a guide to complete your biographical sketch. You will be able to upload your biographical sketch via the Application Portal after your Graduate School application has been submitted.
- Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV)
-
Prospective students will also be asked to upload a current resume or CV as part of the online application process. The resume should reflect professional experience and volunteer work, related to the helping profession.
- References
-
Applicants must obtain recommendations from at least two professional references and submit through the online admissions platform.
The two professional recommendations should be from people who know the applicant well enough to comment on their ability to complete a master's level program of study and/or the candidate’s potential as a counselor.
Please note that it is good practice to communicate with each of your references before you begin the application process. As soon as you enter their information into the online application, they will receive a request to submit their recommendation directly through the system. Applicants should follow-up with their references to ensure that the recommendations have been submitted in a timely fashion. An applicant's file is not considered complete and will not be acted upon until all three recommendations are received.
Step 3: Submit Application
Submit a Graduate application through the UTC application portal. This will include a payment of $35 non-refundable application fee for domestic applicants or $40 for international applicants.
Step 4: Submit Official Transcripts
Request and submit Official Transcripts from every college attended
