James W. Hiestand is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  He received his BAE from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1965, his MEng (1966) and his PhD in Aerospace Engineering (1973) from Cornell University.  He has 12 years industrial experience at Combustion Engineering and 35 years of college teaching experience, 33 of it at UTC.  There he has taught a wide variety of courses.  His research interests center on numerical modeling of heat transfer and fluid flow.  Applications  have included multidimensional dimensional single and two-phase flow, both transient and steady state boiler performance, LOCA simulation, fluidized bed combustion kinetics, heat exchangers, and finite element (ANSYS) and finite volume (CFDRCAce) heat transfer and fluid mechanics modeling.
