Minor Requirements: 18 Hours Total
- GEOG 1010 Physical Geography (3 credits)
- GEOG 1040 Cultural Geography (3 credits)
- 12 other credit hours in geography, at least 9 of which are at 3000 or 4000 level
- Minimum 2.0 average in all courses attempted for the minor
- Additional details that are not found in the course catalog
- To declare a Geography Minor, you need to fill out a form with the Records Office (link is below). Otherwise, you won’t get credit for all your hard work.

Career Information
Benefits and relevance of geography minor to workforce: There are a broad range of careers and majors that benefit from geographic studies, including: social and environmental sciences, technology, and humanities. According to the GCGE, “geographic reasoning brings societies and nature under the lens of spatial analysis and results in habits of thinking essential to making personal decisions and solving societal problems” - skills that are highly valued by employers in today’s competitive job market. Furthermore, “the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has identified many jobs that involve geographic skills as ‘bright outlook’ careers – they are expected to grow rapidly over the next several years and will potentially lead to large number of job openings” (GCGE).

- AAG International Geographic Information Fund offers student travel, research, or paper awards in GIS/spatial analysis
- Marble-Boyle Undergraduate Achievement Awards in Geographic Science recognizes academic performance and leadership
- Mel Marcus Fund for Physical Geography supports field-based research by faculty with students (professors apply)
- Specialty/Affinity Group Competitions for members belonging to AAG
