MCLL Study Abroad
Interested in Studying Abroad?
For most foreign language and international students, studying abroad is a life-changing experience and the culmination of their aspirations. Many feel that it was the most worthwhile thing that they did during their academic career, and they return after graduation to work overseas or participate in educational programs there. While study abroad is not a requirement, we encourage all our majors to study abroad at some point. In addition to providing an incredible experience, study abroad is a great way to see the world and to gain a deeper understanding of another culture, as well as to improve language skills, especially speaking and listening. It can also be an exciting way to graduate early, to finish a double major or minor, or to graduate on-time for those who have switched majors or transferred. Although it is not a graduation requirement, study abroad is required for those wishing to become certified to teach modern languages.
Students can study abroad for a year, a semester, or as little as a few weeks in the summer, either through the Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange Programs or through faculty-sponsored programs. The Office of Study Abroad and International Exchange Programs offers programs through a variety of partners to virtually every part of the world. Our students have recently studied abroad in Chile, Argentina, Costa Rica, Hungary, Spain and France. Several of our students have studied in Puebla, Mexico with the College of Business.
The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures currently sponsors four summer programs, including the biannual French program to Paris. Biannual programs to Costa Rica and Spain and alternating trips to Rome or Greece.
