France Study Abroad Summer 2022

In July 2022, French professor, Dr. Karen (Casey) Casebier, and Economics professor, Dr. Michaël Bonnal, returned to Paris for the UTC Summer in Paris 2022 program with 22 students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Business.
Over the course of the 6-credit summer program, students took classes on French Cinema, the economics of the Belle Epoque, and an interdisciplinary experiential learning class. During their 5-week stay in Paris, students visited museums and monuments, and took walking tours of the city’s most iconic quartiers. They even celebrated Bastille Day in Paris. The expanded program also included day trips to visit the Palace of Versailles, Chartres Cathedral, and Giverny.
When asked about her favorite experiential learning activity, Dr. Casebier comments, “We always go to Versailles, but we wanted to get out of town for a change, so students could see a bit of the countryside. It was a challenge to organize the day trips, but wading in the river on a sunny summer day was even better than seeing Monet’s garden in Giverny. We had just been to the Musée d’Orsay as part of our unit on Impressionism, and then we had this unparalleled opportunity to see the world in the same way that the artists saw it when they created these paintings.”
Dr. Casebier ([email protected]) will next offer the UTC Summer in Paris program in June 2024.
