Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- What is a Pharmacy Technician?

- Taking prescription inventory
- Packaging medications
- Interacting with and educating patients
- Communicating with doctors to process insurance claims
- Who should enroll in the course?
Our Pharmacy Tech program is made for any and all passionate individuals wanting to enter the healthcare field and make a lasting impact on their community, without clinical work. Our fast-paced program requires dedication and attentiveness to be most successful.
Students who want or need patient care hours are especially encouraged to enroll!
To participate in the optional externship, students must be atleast 18 years old and willing to submit a background check, drug screening, and immunization records. The certification exam typically requires students to be atleast 18 years old and have at least a GED or high school diploma.
- Do you need Prior Work Experience or Prerequisites?
Not at all! Our program is designed for all experience levels. The Certification Exam does require students to be atleast 18 years old and have at least a GED or high school diploma.
- What will I learn?
- Dosage calculations and conversions

- What Pharmacy Technician certification does the program prepare me for?
Our program prepares students for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) which is administered through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB). After passing the exam, the student becomes a nationally-recognized CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Tech).
The pharmacy tech certification exam cost is included in the cost of the course.
- Do I have to renew my Certification?
Because of the rapid changes in the healthcare field, the PTCB requires certification renewal every two years to maintain their CPhT credentials.
- Where do Pharmacy Techs typically work?
Pharmacy techs work in a variety of settings including:
- Hospitals
- Retail Pharmacies
- Independent Pharmacies
- Compounding Pharmacies
- Mail Service Pharmacies
- Grocery Stores
- Long-Term Care Facilities
- Insurance Companies
- Drug Wholesale Companies
- What's the difference between a Pharmacy Tech and a Pharmacist?
Pharmacy tech and pharmacists are both skilled professionals that are vital for a pharmacy to run properly, but a Pharmacy Tech typically reports to a superior Pharmacist. Pharmacy techs can't perform various duties without the direct supervision of a pharmacist, such as dispensing medication without prescription verification, making decisions on drug substitutions, or giving instructions for prescription preparation.
Additionally, Pharmacists earn a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD.) degree that requires a bachelor’s degree, an additional four years of schooling, and a clinical residency. Pharmacy technicians typically need a high school diploma and a certification.
