Cheryl served as the lead presenter for the Acute Care Section of the APTA National Journal Club. She highlighted groundbreaking research on gait rehabilitation after stroke, focusing on the study: “Quadriceps muscle activity during walking with knee-ankle-foot orthosis is associated with improved gait ability in acute hemiplegic stroke patients with severe gait disturbance” (Hayashi et al., 2024). At the conclusion of her residency, Cheryl presented her case report titled: “Treatment Strategies for the Pain-Dominant Patient Following Traumatic Injury.”

Geriatric Physical Therapy Resident
Faith is spearheading an innovative quality improvement initiative the addresses a critical gap in outpatient geriatric care. By implementing systemmatic frality screening protocols, she is working to identify at-risk older adults earlier in their care trajectory, enabling timely interventions that can prevent functional decline and improve long-term outcomes for this vulnerable population.
Quality Improvement Project
Implementing Frailty Screening in Outpatient Physical Therapy Setting
This project enhances early detection of frailty markers, allowing therapists to tailor interventions and coordinate comprehensive care plans that address the multifaceted needs of geriatric patients.
