- What's the difference between SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP?
A great question!
SHRM-CP stands for SHRM Certified Professional. This certification caters towards HR professionals functioning at the operational level performing duties like implementing HR policies, supporting day-to-day fuctions, or serving as the HR point of contact.
SHRM-SCP stands for SHRM Senior Certified Professional. This certification is built for HR professionals who work at the high-level of HR strategies performing duties such as developing HR policies, overseeing HR operations, or directing an HR enterprise.
- Why should I go through UTC's Certification Prep course?
When you choose to enroll in UTC's course, you're not just recieving study materials and a practice exam. Instead, we provide you with expert guidence from an industry leader, experienced in Human Resources (CP and SCP), certification practices, and proven learning strategies, as well as the SHRM prep material. Our small cohort size also creates an encouraging and collaborative environment for personalized support and opportunities to network with your fellow professionals.
Participants will receive of UTC Certificate of Completion upon meeting attendance and course requirements. Our SHRM Certification Prep course also qualifies for 3.6 CEUs.
- What materials are included in the course fee?
Digital access to the current SHRM Learning System. Additionally, students have access to the system for 18 months after activation. **Your digital materials will be emailed to you about one week prior to the beginning of class.
- If I pass the exam, does that make me a SHRM member?
No, passing the SHRM Certification exam does not automatically make you a member of the organization. However, many industry professionals would absolutely suggest becoming a member, specifically for the incredible resources and opportunities it provides. - How can I get my employer to pay for the course?
We provide a template that you can use to request course funding from your employer. The letter highlights organizational benefits for employers whose employees participate. If they have any additional questions, please encourage them to reach out to us directly.
- How does SHRM Recertification work?
SHRM has a three-year recertification cycle. There are two ways to recertify:
- Earn 60 professional development credits (PDCs) within your three-year recertification cycle OR
- Retake the certification exam within the last year of your recretification cycle.

- How much time will this course take per week?
Students spend 3 hrs/week in-class and an estimated 3 hrs/week outside of class reviewing materials. Review time will vary student to student.
- How long after taking the course should I take my exam?
30-90 days is the recommended time, per the course instructor.
