Applying for a Library Courtesy Card
Current students, faculty, and staff will use their MocsCard to access library services and materials and do not need to apply for a card. All other patrons, including UTC alumni, retirees, and community borrowers, will need to visit the Check Out desk on the first floor to receive a valid library card.
The application process for library courtesy cards vary per group type. Please find your group type below for instructions. Information regarding circulation of items and loan policies can be found on our Borrow and Return Materials page.
- UTC Alumni

- Alumni of UTC must get a digital alumni card issued by Alumni Affairs. For more information about how to get this card, visit the digital card application page, or contact the Alumni Office at 423-425-4785.
- Please visit the Check Out desk on the first floor, and bring your digital Alumni Card, along with a state-issued photo ID that has your current address, to the UTC Library Check Out Desk on the 1st floor of the Library. You will complete a library card form and be entered into the Library computer system, which will activate your Library borrowing privileges.
- The library card is good for one year from the date of issue and can be renewed by reapplying through the same library card process each year.
- UTC Retired Faculty and Staff

- UTC Retired Faculty and Staff must get a card issued by the UTC Office of Human Resources. For more information about how to get this card, contact Human Resources at 423-425-4221.
- Please visit the Check Out desk on the first floor, and bring your retired faculty/staff card, along with a state-issued photo ID that has your current address to the UTC Library Check Out Desk on the 1st floor of the Library. You will complete a library card form and be entered into the Library computer system, which will activate your Library borrowing privileges.
- The library card is good for one year from the date of issue and can be renewed by reapplying through the same library card process each year.
- Dependents of UTC Faculty and Staff

- Dependents of UTC Faculty and Staff must get a card issued by the UTC Office of Human Resources. For more information about how to get this card, contact Human Resources at 423-425-4221.
- Please visit the Check Out desk on the first floor, and bring your faculty/staff dependent card, along with a state-issued photo ID that has your current address to the UTC Library Check Out Desk on the 1st floor of the Library. You will complete a library card form and be entered into the Library computer system, which will activate your Library borrowing privileges.
- The library card is good until the expiration date on the faculty or staff member's record and can be renewed by re-applying through the same library card process.
- University of Tennessee Faculty, Staff and Students

- Current University of Tennessee Students, Faculty, and Staff can use the ID Card from their home institution to receive a library card.
- Please visit the Check Out desk on the first floor, and bring your current UT ID card to the UTC Library Check Out Desk on the 1st floor of the Library.
- Library staff will contact your home library to verify your current enrollment/employment. When you have filled out our library card form you will be entered into the Library computer system, which will activate your Library borrowing privileges.
- The expiration date of your privileges is the last day of UTC's spring semester for faculty and the last day of the current UTC semester for staff and students. The card can be renewed by following this process in the new semester following the expiration of your privileges.
- Tennessee Academic Library Consortium Members (Students)

- Currently enrolled students from Tennessee Academic Library Consortium Members (TALC) Members can use the ID Card from their home institution to receive a library card.
- Please visit the Check Out desk on the first floor, and bring your current home institution ID card to the UTC Library Check Out Desk on the 1st floor of the Library.
- UTC Library will contact your home library to verify your current enrollment. When you have filled out our library card form you will be entered into the Library computer system, which will activate your Library borrowing privileges.
- The expiration date for your card is specified by your home institution and is the last day of the current academic semester. The card can be renewed by following this process each semester.
- Hamilton County Teachers

- Teachers from the Hamilton County Public School District can get a library card by presenting a letter from their school.
The letter must:- Have a current date
- Verify employment with the Hamilton County Schools
- Be signed by the principal of the school
- Be written on school letterhead.
- Please visit the Check Out desk on the first floor, and bring this letter, along with a state-issued photo ID that has your current address to the UTC Library Check Out Desk on the 1st floor of the Library. You will complete a library card form and be entered into the Library computer system, which will activate your Library borrowing privileges.
- The card is good until August 20th immediately following the current school year. The card can be renewed by bringing a new verification letter from your principal and a state-issued photo ID with current address to the UTC Library Check Out Desk.
- Teachers from the Hamilton County Public School District can get a library card by presenting a letter from their school.
Note: All Patrons must resolve all outstanding obligations to UTC Library before renewing their cards.
