Applying for a Library Courtesy Card

UTC Alumni

  • Alumni of UTC must get a card issued by the UTC Alumni Office. For more information about how to get this card, contact the Alumni Office at (423) 425-4785.
  • Bring your alumni card and a state-issued photo ID with your current address to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk. When you have filled out our courtesy card form and have been entered into the computer system, your library privileges will be activated.
  • The card is good for one year from date of issue and can be renewed by re-applying through the same courtesy card process each year.

UTC Retired Faculty and Staff

  • UTC Retired Faculty and Staff must get a card issued by the UTC Office of Human Resources. For more information about how to get this card, contact Human Resources at (423) 425-4221. 
  • Bring your retired faculty/staff card and a state-issued photo ID with your current address to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk. When you have filled out our courtesy card form and have been entered into the computer system, your library privileges will be activated.
  • The card is good for one year from date of issue and can be renewed by re-applying through the same courtesy card process each year.

Dependents of UTC Faculty and Staff

  • Dependents of UTC Faculty and Staff must get a card issued by the UTC Office of Human Resources. For more information about how to get this card, contact Human Resources at (423) 425-4221. 
  • Bring your faculty/staff dependent card and a state-issued photo ID with your current address to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk. When you have filled out our courtesy card form and have been entered into the computer system, your library privileges will be activated.
  • The card is good until the expiration date on the faculty or staff member's record and can be renewed by re-applying through the same courtesy card process.

Visiting Scholars

  • Visiting Scholars must get a letter from the head of the UTC department with which they are working.
  • This letter must: 1) Be written on department letterhead; 2) Be signed by the Head of the Department; 3) Specify an expiration date within one year of the current date.
  • Bring this documentation and a state-issued photo ID with current address to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk. When you have filled out our courtesy card form and been entered into the computer system, your library privileges will be activated.
  • The card is good until the date specified in the letter from the Department Head. After that date, the card can be renewed with a new letter and a new application for a courtesy card.

University of Tennessee Faculty, Staff and Students

  • Current Students, Faculty, or Staff at any University of Tennessee school can present the ID card from their home institution at the Check-Out Desk for borrowing privileges. 
  • Library staff will contact your home library to verify your current enrollment/employment.  When you have filled out our courtesy card form and been entered into the computer system, your library privileges will be activated.
  • The expiration date of your privileges is the last day of UTC's spring semester for faculty and the last day of the current UTC semester for staff and students. 
  • Your privileges can be renewed by presenting the ID card from your home institution at the UTC Library Check-Out Desk.
  • Library staff will contact your home library to verify your current enrollment/employment.
  • When you have filled out our courtesy card form, your library privileges will be reactivated.

Tennessee Board of Regents Faculty, Staff, and Students

  • A current Student, Faculty, or Staff member at a Tennessee Board of Regents school can get a TBR/UT card by visiting the Circulation Desk at his or her home library.
  • Bring this TBR/UT card and a state-issued photo ID with current address to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk. When you have filled out our courtesy card form and been entered into the computer system, your library privileges will be activated.
  • The expiration date of the card is specified by your home institution (no more than one year from date of issue). Your card can be renewed by bringing an updated TBR/UT card and a state-issued photo ID with current address to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk.
  • When you have filled out our courtesy card form, your library privileges will be reactivated.

Hamilton County Teachers

  • Teachers from the Hamilton County Public School District can get a library card by presenting a letter from their school.
  • The letter must: 1) Have a current date; 2) Verify employment with the Hamilton County Schools; 3) Be signed by the principal of the school; 4) Be written on school letterhead.
  • Bring this letter and a state-issued photo ID with current address to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk. When you have filled out our courtesy card form and been entered into the computer system, your library privileges will be activated.
  • The card is good until August 20th immediately following the current school year.  The card can be renewed by bringing a new verification letter from your principal and a state-issued photo ID with current address to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk.
  • When you have filled out our courtesy card form, your library privileges will be reactivated.

Other Visitors

  • Other visitors who wish to join the Library will be issued a UTC Library courtesy card with payment of a $50.00 annual subscriber's fee and presentation of a state-issued photo ID with current address.
  • Bring this documentation to the UTC Library Check-Out Desk. When you have filled out our courtesy card form and been entered into the computer system, your library privileges will be activated.
  • The card is good for one year from date of issue.  The card can be renewed for another year by paying $50.00 and presenting your state issued photo ID with current address.
  • When you have filled out our courtesy card form, your library privileges will be reactivated.

Note: All Patrons must resolve all outstanding obligations to UTC Library before renewing their cards.
