How have your studies in the program factored into your career goals? Any influential mentors on campus?
“The master’s in electrical engineering I obtained at UTC was a key factor in the progression of my career. It enabled me to secure a job first in California with an electric motorcycle company and now at Volkswagen in the development of electric vehicles. Dr. Raga Ahmed was a consistent positive influence throughout my time at UTC. Dr. Ahmed provided ample support while simultaneously allowing me to work independently.”
Why UTC?
“The expansion of the electrical engineering department at UTC gave me greater freedom in selecting my research topic.”
Favorite thing to do in Chattanooga?
“My favorite thing about Chattanooga is the mountains, with the endless hiking trails and tranquility of the scenery.”
Have you changed during your time at UTC?
“Yes. Working as a TA for over 2 years, I learned how to best interact with and instruct students. Those skills have helped me interact with coworkers and peers ever since.”
What opportunities have you had to gain other skills?
“While doing my thesis research, I became much more familiar with coding, specifically in MATLAB.”
Best part of going through the graduate program?
“I enjoyed being able to choose my own research topic, which was due to the growth and expansion of the CECS department.”
Advice for any incoming graduate students?
“Become a graduate teaching assistant; the experiences gained from doing so are invaluable and are applicable to many professional endeavors. Chattanooga itself is a wonderful city. In addition, the breadth of research topics of the faculty in the CECS departments at UTC provides a wider array of learning opportunities than many other universities.”
