The College Environment and Experience
The faculty and the students find the College of Engineering and Computer Science a welcoming environment to build their academic, tool and skill knowledge. Some highlights of the College include:
- UTC Engineering and Computer Science students benefit from smaller classes and a low student to teacher ratio.
- All engineering and computer science classes are taught by faculty with professional degrees.
- The college has a Work Force Development Center that assists students to gain work experience and develop their interpersonal skills through internships and co-op opportunities with companies throughout Chattanooga and the surrounding areas.
- Our students put their knowledge to the test by participating annually in national competitions such as Mini Baja, ChemE Car, Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe.
- Our graduates can be found working for Fortune 500 companies, local, state and federal governing agencies.
In addition the college has:
- Active student chapters that are affiliated with national Engineering and Computer Science professional societies and organizations
- One of the fastest growing graduate programs at UTC
- An award winning freshman design course.
- The nation’s first web-based controls laboratory (since1995)
- The Center for Energy, Transportation, and the Environment (with focus on electric vehicles and alternative energy)
- The Center for Information Security (one of 10 nationwide certified NSA and Homeland Security for education)
- The SimCenter: National Center for Computational Engineering, a center for integrated research and education supporting the Graduate School for Computational Engineering
- Competitive grant programs from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Department of Energy (DOE)
- Collaborative workforce development programs and advanced training in focus areas such as Smart Grid, Civil Materials Infrastructure, and Manufacturing
- Faculty participating in several Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) programs reaching back to middle and high schools
- Collaborative agreements with Chattanooga State Community College to ease transfer to UTC
