The listing below includes currently-scheduled concerts, recitals and performances.  Events occur in the Roland Hayes Concert Hall or Cadek Recital Hall, unless otherwise noted.  In general, performances begin at 7:30 pm.  However, please check each individual listing as some events may have different start times.  End times vary by performance.  Click the links for more detailed information (when available).
 
Unless otherwise indicated, most of the events we sponsor are offered to the public at no charge and do not require a ticket to attend.

Guest Ensemble: DeCoda Cello Quartet

The Decoda Cello Quartet is a part of the Decoda Ensemble, based in New York City. Its members are highly accomplished young professional musicians who perform in a variety of groups, tour, and participate in community enrichment and educational projects. They have also performed with numerous world-renowned soloists. The Cello Quartet members include Hamilton Berry, Claire Bryant, Yves Dharamraj, and Caitlin Sullivan.The Decoda Cello Quartet will present a workshop on community engagement through music and the arts on Friday, January 20, at 4:30 p.m. in Cadek Recital Hall on the UTC campus. Admission is free and open to the campus and the public. The group will perform and will hold an open conversation about making a positive impact in communities through music. There will be time for questions from the audience as well. This workshop is sponsored by the Holmberg Professor of American Music and the Department of Performing Arts.This group is in Chattanooga to be part of the String Theory concert series at the Hunter Museum of Art. Ms. Xinwen Zhang is a junior, fulfilling requirements for a Bachelor of Music in piano performance. Lindsay Betts is working toward a Bachelor of Arts degree. Both ladies are students of Ms. Sigrid Luther. They will be presenting solo works by Bach, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Muczynski, and Griffes followed by a piano duet. There is no charge for admission and all are invited to attend.

UTC Music presents guest artists James Hall, flute, and Willem Van Schalkwyk, piano. They will be performing works by Schubert, Back, Chopin and Mower at Cadek Recital Hall at 3:00 p.m. Admission is free and all are invited to attend.

Flutist James Hall has enjoyed a varied and impressive career as an international soloist, chamber and orchestral musician, and teacher. A versatile and engaging performer, The Kansas City Star called him “red-hot” and the Denver Musical Weekly called his performance “...the best flute performance I have witnessed in my life.” He has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras in the United States and abroad. Recent international appearances include a concerto performance with the National Symphony Orchestras of Paraguay and Panama, as well as a recital tours in Central and South America.Hall has been heard performing live on Kansas Public Radio and St. Louis’ Classic 99, and has been the winner of numerous competitions, including those of New York’s Artists International, St. Louis’ Artist Presentation Society, and the Kansas City Musical Club. As a winner of Artists International, he gave his New York debut recital Weill Recital Hall in 2004. Hall is founder, flutist, and artistic director of the Chamber Music Society of Kansas City, which opened its debut season to critical acclaim in 2003. He has also premiered the works of notable American composers, including Hubert Bird’s flute concerto, which he performed in 2005. Hall has served as principal flutist with the Topeka Symphony, Missouri Symphony, St. Joseph Symphony, Greeley Philharmonic, Boulder Philharmonic, and the Boulder Bach Festival. He also performs regularly with pianist Willem Van Schalkwyk, and as a duo the two have appeared in concert halls around the world.Hall is in high demand as a teacher, having given master classes across the United States and around the world, and he is currently the flute professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Hall holds a doctorate from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and his principal teachers include Rae Terpenning, Mary Posses, and Carol Wincenc. James Hall is a performing artist for Burkart Flutes.

Tri-State Collegiate Choral Showcase
Roland Hayes Concert Hall
UTC is hosting a spring collegiate choral concert featuring community choirs from Tennessee, Georgia and Virginia. Featured choirs are Chattanooga State Community College, Cleveland Community College, Dalton State Community College, SW Virginia Community College and the UTC Chattanooga Singers. The performance will include the music of Roland Carter as well as other notable works.
