The UTC cheerleading squad, including the mascot, Scrappy, is a group of male and female UTC students. They divide up into an all female squad and a co-ed squad to cheer at different sporting events. The squads lead the fans and cheer on the Mocs at football, basketball, wrestling and other sporting events on campus, as well as performing at other special events during the year. The squads are organized by the Office of Student Affairs and is under the supervision of a staff advisor and coach.

In addition to performing at approximately 45 regularly scheduled contests, the cheerleading squad also travels to perform select away games and the Southern Conference Men's and Women's Basketball Championships. Scrappy performs at the games as well and can be scheduled to perform at various events to promote the University and its athletics program.
Tryouts are held in the spring and are open to all incoming and currently enrolled students. Prior experience in cheerleading at the high school or college level is desired. Semester stipends are provided. Satisfactory academic progress and adherence to appropriate health standards are expected. Practice sessions and a schedule of performances are confirmed at the conclusion of tryouts.
