If you look around the campus of The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, you will find a message chiseled for eternity into the stone of our structures. “We shall achieve.” It’s a bold commitment that guides us in everything we do and tells the world what to expect from our campus and our graduates.
At UTC, we achieve.
That’s why UTC is one of the fastest growing campuses in Tennessee. Students and their families see the significant benefits offered by a Chattanooga education. Our campus and our city are experiencing a renaissance bringing about new opportunities for student learning, academic pursuit, and community engagement.
Our primary strategic initiatives of providing an excellent educational experience to our students and of strengthening our community partnerships work together to help the campus achieve its goals.
We educate our students to prepare them for ethical and active leadership in civic, cultural, and professional lives. Chattanooga serves as a living laboratory for our students and faculty, and we depend on a series of strategic partnerships to provide access to experiential learning and applied research opportunities.
As a community engaged university, UTC focuses on partnerships that advance the educational, societal and economic development aims of the campus, the University of Tennessee System, the Chattanooga region, the state and the nation.
Bachelor’s, master’s, specialist’s and doctoral degrees, along with graduate certificates, are awarded through the Colleges of Arts and Sciences; Business; Engineering and Computer Science; and Health, Education, and Professional Studies, as well as the UTC Graduate School.
Our campus has undertaken a recent construction boom of more than $300 million, including our new $48 million state-of-the-art library, which opened in January 2015. A new University Honors College provides an innovative learning environment serving exceptionally talented students. Off campus, the University offers credit and noncredit instruction for professional and intellectual development, extending its educational mission to an even broader range of citizens.
At UTC, our students learn from and alongside a dedicated group of teaching scholars. Every day, our faculty members introduce new ideas to students and create new knowledge through research and creative achievements.
Research is a priority for the campus. Effective teaching and faculty involvement in scholarship, research, and creative activities are interdependent. These activities foster the intellectual growth of the faculty, provide students with opportunities to participate in development and application of new knowledge, and enhance the region’s growth.
UTC is proud to be the home of the Mocs! As a member of the Southern Conference, our student-athletes compete in 17 sports in Division I, earning multiple conference championships and earning post-season play in many sports.

Home to some of the world’s most famous brands and industries—Moon Pie, Little Debbie, Amazon, Coca-Cola, Chattem, Volkswagen—Chattanooga is a hub for successful business enterprise, a regional tourism center, and a rewarding place to live. Nestled next to downtown Chattanooga, the UTC campus has perfect access to the thriving business environment necessary to support real world learning experiences. And when class is over, students don’t have far to go to climb, glide, hike, camp, tube, float, explore, shop, eat, kick back, and generally have a blast!
Education at UTC goes beyond the traditional classroom and laboratory as befits an institution where service is also a high priority. UTC faculty members continue to bring their professional expertise to bear on the concerns of the larger community.
We work hard to keep tuition affordable to students and their families so that a UTC education remains accessible. Despite recent increases in tuition, UTC is still below the average in cost of attendance for its peers.
Through our regional tuition rate, UTC offers a reduced tuition rate to eligible residents in selected counties in Georgia and Alabama. The reduced rate is available to eligible residents for both graduate and undergraduate study.
We invite you to visit our campus and our community. Once you do, we know you’ll want to be a Moc!
