Welcome to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Department of Music. The Department of Music has been a member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1933. As one of the largest departments in the College of Arts and Sciences, it boasts a low student-teacher ratio, assuring individualized instruction of the highest quality.
The Department of Music offers undergraduate degrees in performance, music education, sacred music, and theory and composition, as well as graduate degrees in performance and music education. Affiliations with the Cadek Conservatory of Music and the Southeast Center for Education in the Arts provide numerous additional educational opportunities for faculty and students.
The performance faculty are highly qualified and are active recitalists, chamber music, conductors, and members of local professional performing organizations. The faculty in the academic areas are also highly qualified; most have earned the terminal degree in their field. There is a good balance between the performing arts and academic study.
Performance grants are available to those who decide to major in music as well as those who do not decide to
major in music.
UTC takes pride in its development as an institution and invites you to become a member of its musical and
academic family.
