We are on track to Canvas!

Over the past several months, the LMS Review Committee evaluated options for an LMS moving forward at UTC. Based on data from pilot courses, a technical assessment, on-campus vendor presentations, and discussions with other institutions, the committee recommended- and the Chancellor and Interim Provost endorsed - moving to Canvas.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How is Canvas different from Blackboard?

Canvas provides a robust set of student-centered tools that are mobile-friendly and easy to use. Review the feature comparison for a basic overview.

Can I move my course materials from Blackboard to Canvas?

Yes, instructors have the ability to import course materials from Blackboard to Canvas. This change in LMS also presents an opportunity to start anew with a clean template. Contact WCTL for more information on the best option for you.

Can I use my textbook integrations with Canvas?

Yes, textbook and other types of integrations work with Canvas.

Will students need to log into two systems – Blackboard and Canvas – during the transition?

Yes, students will have some courses in Blackboard and some courses in Canvas as we transition. To make this as easy as possible, for Spring and Summer 2019, all courses will be created in Blackboard and there will be a link to Canvas in the course space if the course is being taught in Canvas.

Can I merge my classes in Canvas?

Just as with Blackboard, you can submit a request to merge multiple sections of a course of the same modality (for example, two online sections of the same course).
