|6/20/2013||Open||When using Internet Explorer 10, student rows do not appear in the Grade Center.||
There are two workarounds:
|2/19/2013||Open||Student may see an error message when attempting a group assignment that indicates that another student in or outside the course is attempting the assignment||
A student in a Blackboard course using group assignments may receive the following error message when attempting a group assignment:
"Another user may already be working on this submission. Last recorded activity: Student Name..."
The user named in the message may or may not be a member of the course.
This error message can be ignored. No security issues have been observed.
|9/26/2012||Open||Test with Auto Submit enabled has user "in-progress" in the grade center||
When a student takes a timed test that is set to Auto Submit, the test will be labeled as "In Progress" if the student exits the exam without submitting it and the timer expires.
In-progress attempts can be cleared or submitted by the instructor from the Grade Center.
Copying Discussion Forums to Groups
Discussion forums can not be copied to a group discussion area for private group discussion unless the instructor is enrolled in the group.
Workaround: In order for a discussion forum to be copied to a group the instructor must add themselves as a member to each group to which the discussion is to be copied. After completing the copy operation the instructor can remove themselves from the groups.
Build Content File PDFs will not open in window
PDF Files added to a content area using Build Content > File will not open in window. A missing plug-in message will appear on screen.
Workaround: While adding content using Build Content > File select open in new window. The file will display as intended with these settings.
|4/2/2012||Open||Last row in Full Grade Center not visible||The last row in the Grade Center is occasionally not visible in Firefox making it difficult to enter grades for the last student listed in the Grade Center. To resolve this issue in Firefox select View from the Firefox tool bar > Zoom > Reset.|
|4/2/2012||Open||Not Attempted record in the Grade Center (missing grade in Full Grade Center view)||
Occasionally a Not Attempted record will be recorded as a student attempt in the Grade Center. Not Attempted records do not appear in Needs Grading views or in the dropdown menu associated with students' attempts. Not Attempted records can only be seen in the View Grade Details view. Not Attempted records can cause zeros or no grade to appear in the Grade Center even though a point value has been entered by the instructor.
Workaround: If a grade has been entered and is visible in the attempt dropdown menu of an assignment cell in the Grade Center but not in the Full Grade Center view, select View Grade Details from the cell dropdown menu. If a Not Attempted record appears in the Grade Details, select Clear Attempt to remove this record. The recorded grade should now appear in the Grade Center.
|1/18/2012||Open||Non-alphanumeric characters in a Course Name cause Announcement Emails to fail||If a course name contains non-alphanumeric characters and the "Send a copy of this announcement immediately" box is selected, emails will not send and instructors will see the following message: "Success: Announcement created. Email could not be sent." This is a known issue and a fix is expected in Blackboard 9.1 SP8. Workaround: Instructors can remove the non-alphanumeric characters from the course name in the Control Panel > Customization > Properties. Once the illegal character has been removed, Announcement email will send.|
|1/11/2012||Open||Student discussion thread drafts are not visible in list view||If a student creates a thread and saves it as a draft the draft will not be visible to the student if the forum is viewed from List View. The recommended workaround is to change the forum view to Tree View.|
|9/30/2011||Open||Instructors cannot manually add or remove students from "sign-up lists"||If an instructor creates a "sign-up list" using the "add interactive tool" feature, students can add themselves or withdraw from the list without issue. However, the instructor cannot add or remove students manually. Currently there is no known workaround. The instructor may use the text box editor to add student names manually while also reducing the number of places. This is an identified issue with this tool and Blackboard 9.1. If the instructor chooses to use this tool, they must realize this limitation.|
|9/2/2011||Closed||Students receive "The specified resource was not found, or you do not have permission to access it" error when accessing course content||Update (12/22/2011): Issue resolved by applying Blackboard service pack release 9.1 SP6. If an instructor uses the "Course Copy" utility to copy an existing course into a new course, students receive the error described. The recommended workaround is to utilize the "export" and "import" utilities to move content from one course to another.|
|9/1/2011||Open||Wikis and Mashups (including YouTube, Flickr, & SlideShare) generate errors when attempting to create new or access existing content.||UTC Online offers these advanced features so that faculty can test them in their courses. We know there are some issues, but believe the value added down the road is worth overlooking some of the bugs in the beginning. Please inform us of issues you encounter (email@example.com), but please realize that we may not be able to fix all of the issues that may occur.|
|3/16/2011||Closed||Chevron in Grade Center for last student's cells is not visible when using Internet Explorer||Update (12/22/2011): Issue resolved by applying Blackboard service pack release 9.1
SP6. Instructors: When the Grade Center is accessed using Internet Explorer, the chevron
that should appear for the last displayed student's cells does not appear when you
hover over it with your mouse. There are two workarounds:
1. (Recommended) Use a different browser such as Firefox or Chrome.
2. To keep working in Internet Explorer, you may access the last student's cell chevron menus by going to another student's Grade Centr cell and then using an arrow key or return to enter one of the last student's cells and make the chevron appear; alternately, you can try enablingCompatibility Mode.
|3/4/2011||Open||Embedded file link in an announcement notification email does not work||If an instructor embeds a file using the Text Box Editor into an announcement and chooses to send that announcement via an email, when a student clicks on the file link within the announcement email that link will not work. To workaround this issue, you may either email the file directly using the Send Email tool or you can create an announcement or email with instructions on where the file is located within the course (and notify students they must login to access the file).|
|3/4/2011||Open||Attached files not visible in "Show Icons Only" view for a content area||If in a content area you have a content item with an attached file and this content area is being viewed in "Show Icons Only" view mode (select the dropdown chevron menu of the content area's title and select Show Icons Only), then the files attached to the content item are no longer visible. To workaround this issue either have this content area viewed in "Shows Icons and Text" view mode or attach the files using the Text Box Editor instead of via the Attachments area.|
|2/10/2011||Open||Errors with a course link to assessment set to open in new window||Instructors: When creating a course link that links to an assessment which is set
to open in a new window, three errors occur: the assessment does not open in a new
window, the assessment's pre-submission Cancel button does not work, and the assessment's
post-submission OK button does not work.
Workaround: When creating a course link, do not link it directly to an assessment which is set to open in a new window but instead link it to the section that contains the assessment.
|2/4/2011||Open||Grade Center does not correctly display student membership in graded discussion forums/threads for multiple groups||Instructors: If you use multiple group discussion boards containing gradable forums/threads, the Grade Center incorrectly displays group membership by graying out the wrong cells. It is expected that the group forum/thread's Grade Center grid cell for non-group members should be grayed out and not editable, yet sometimes it is not grayed out and is editable. This behavior is inconsistent. The only "workaround" suggested is to create smart views in the Grade Center that only show a specific group at a time.|
|1/27/2011||Open||Having to Login Again to Access a File in Internet Explorer||If you attempt to access a Microsoft Office file (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel) while
using Internet Explorer, you may be asked to login again in a window prompt (relogin prompt example) that typically opens behind your main window. There are four workarounds:
1. (Recommended) Use a different browser such as Firefox or Chrome.
2. Choose "Cancel" (once or twice) when presented with the re-login prompt and the file should open anyway.
3. Choose to save the file to your computer and then the re-login prompt will not appear.
4. To keep using Internet Explorer and have the file open (instead of saving it) without the login prompt, make the following change in Tools > Internet Options > Security:
select Internet zone: click "Custom level..." button, scroll all the way down to User Authentication, set Logon to "Anonymous logon", and then restart Internet Explorer
|1/26/2011||Closed||Adding YouTube Content Unavailable||Update (2/11/2011): Issue resolved by applying Blackboard patch. Part of the new Blackboard version's functionality was the ability to add a YouTube video directly from within Blackboard. However, YouTube recently made a change which broke this Blackboard functionality. As a result, users wanting to add YouTube content within a Blackboard course must add the content by copying the Share URL listed on the YouTube video's page. Instructors can also use the Embed code to post YouTube content as an embedded video within Blackboard.|
|11/9/2010||Closed||Instructors can't attach file using Text Box Editor with "Browse My Computer"||Update (1/27/2011): Issue resolved by applying Blackboard service pack release 9.1 SP3. If an instructor attempts to attach a file using the Text Box Editor combined with the "Browse My Computer" button, the file attachment does not get attached successfully (a red "Invalid Argument" error is received). To attach a file, instructors should either attach a file using the Attachments area or upload the file first to the Course Files area and then attach the file in the VTBE with the "Browse Course" button.|
|9/30/2010||Closed||Saving Drafts in Graded Discussion Forums||Update (3/14/2011): Issue resolved by applying Blackboard service pack release 9.1 SP4. In a discussion forum that is graded, users will be unable to save a draft in these types of discussion forums. Users instead should either post the message instead or draft the message in a text editor and paste into Blackboard.|
|9/23/2010||Closed||Discussion Board Attachments||Update (1/27/2011): Issue resolved by applying Blackboard service pack release 9.1 SP3. When making a discussion board post, instructors if they attach a file using the attachments area (2. Attachments), students will be unable to access that attached file. Workaround: Instructors should instead attach files using the visual text box editor.|
|8/25/2010||Closed||Wiki Access||Update (5/13/2011): We believe a change made in coordination with Blackboard tech support has fixed this issue. The wiki tool is being turned on and off for no discernible reason. Access to wikis may be unreliable. If so, it is recommended you quit your session, quit your browser, and then re-open your browser (or open a different browser) and login again to see if you can then access wikis successfully.|
|8/23/2010||Closed||Course Modules||Update (11/9/2010): After upgrading to a new Blackboard release, these modules are stable but we continue to monitor these modules closely.Course modules (To Do, What's New, Alerts, Needs Attention) were problematic to the point they were preventing access to courses by instructors and students. As such, they have been disabled until the cause has been determined.|
