Social Work Student Outcomes

University of Tennessee Chattanooga

Masters in Social Work (MSW) Program

Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes

Last Completed on May 29, 2018

All Council on Social Work Education programs measure and report student learning outcomes. Students are assessed on their mastery of the competencies that comprise the accreditation standards of the Council on Social Work Education. These competencies are dimensions of social work practice that all social workers are expected to master during their professional training. A measurement benchmark is set by the social work programs for each competency. An assessment score at or above that benchmark is considered by the program to represent mastery of that particular competency.

The benchmark set by the Masters in Social Work (MSW) program at UTC is 80% of students will achieve a four or five on a five-point Likert scale for each of the competencies. For the coursework, assessment scores represent the aggregate mean of student outcomes for each competency. For the field experience, the assessment scores represent the aggregate mean of student outcomes for each competency and behavior. Educational assessment tools used to evaluate student outcomes during the 2017-2018 MSW Program include the final e-portfolio for coursework and for field work. Findings are from students that graduated in 2018.
