File a Report: Faculty/Staff Procedures
If you or someone you know has been discriminated based on race, color, sex (including sexual misconduct, sexual assault, sexual exploitation, sexual orientation, gender identity, pregnancy, marital status, and parental status), religion, national origin, age, disability or veteran status, you are encouraged to report the behavior to the Office of Equity and Diversity (OED).
Where and When to File a Complaint
Complaints of discrimination should be directed to the UTC Office of Equity and Diversity, 720 McCallie Avenue, Second Floor, Dept. 5455, 615 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37403-2598, Telephone (423) 425-5670. Complaints must be in writing and filed within 300 days of the alleged discriminatory action. In certain circumstances, at the discretion of the Diversity Officer, complaints filed outside that time limit, or not submitted in writing, may be investigated.
Employees are encouraged to first attempt to resolve a complaint through the administrative structure of the employment unit or academic department. The Director of Equity and Diversity will provide assistance to the complainant, employment unit, and/or academic department in order to resolve the complaint. Supervisors and other administrators who become aware of unlawful discrimination or harassment must take immediate and appropriate action to stop such practices or behaviors and prevent their recurrence. It is the responsibility of the administrator who receives a complaint or becomes aware of the existence of unlawful discrimination or harassment to contact the Director of Equity and Diversity to seek counsel regarding appropriate action.
