  • Competitive Abstinence Education (CAE) Grant Program
  • Applicants are expected to develop a targeted and medically accurate approach to reducing teen pregnancies through abstinence education. Abstinence education programming is one intervention in a continuum of services that seeks to prevent teen pregnancy. The purpose of the CAE Program is to provide funding for additional tools to address the rates of teen pregnancy among adolescent youth who are at greatest risk of STDs/STIs and most likely to bear children out of wedlock. Program plans will focus on the social, psychological, and health gains to be realized by delaying initiation of sexual activity and engaging in healthy relationships.

  • Partnerships for Innovation: Accelerating Innovation Research- Technology Translation
  • The program supports innovative ideas in the translation of NSF-funded fundamental science and engineering discoveries into market-valued solutions. The program outcomes will be more research discoveries translated onto a path toward commercial reality and the engagement of faculty and students in entrepreneurial/innovative thinking. The program provides an opportunity for prior and/or current NSF-funded research investigators to complete the necessary research that could be any one of the following activities: proof-of-concept or prototype or scale-up of the prototype that addresses real-world constraints and has potential market-value.

  • Smart and Connected Health
  • The goal of the Smart and Connected Health (SCH) Program is to accelerate the development and use of innovative approaches that would support the much needed transformation of healthcare from reactive and hospital-centered to preventive, proactive, evidence-based, person-centered and focused on well-being rather than disease. Approaches that partner technology-based solutions with biobehavioral health research are supported by multiple agencies of the federal government including the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The purpose of this program is to develop next generation health care solutions and encourage existing and new research communities to focus on breakthrough ideas in a variety of areas of value to health, such as sensor technology, networking, information and machine learning technology, decision support systems, modeling of behavioral and cognitive processes, as well as system and process modeling. Effective solutions must satisfy a multitude of constraints arising from clinical/medical needs, social interactions, cognitive limitations, barriers to behavioral change, heterogeneity of data, semantic mismatch and limitations of current cyberphysical systems. Such solutions demand multidisciplinary teams ready to address technical, behavioral and clinical issues ranging from fundamental science to clinical practice.

National Trust for Historic Preservation (7/15/2018)

  • National Trust Preservation Fund
  • This program provides small grants to initiate preservation planning and education projects. Funds may be used to obtain professional expertise in areas such as historic preservation, architecture, archeology, engineering, preservation planning, land-use planning, fundraising, organizational development, and law, as well as preservation education activities to educate the public. Intervention and emergency funds are also available throughout the year. One to one match is required.

  • Smithsonian Opportunities for Research and Study
  • Graduate, postdoctoral, and senior fellowships are supported in these areas: anthropology, archaeology, astrophysics and astronomy, earth sciences, ecology, behavioral and environmental sciences, evolutionary and systematic biology, history of science and technology, art history, and social and cultural history of the U.S. The stipend amount and length of fellowships vary. Graduate and undergraduate internships are also available.

  • The DS program supports research on the theories of dynamical systems, new analytical and computational tools, and novel application of dynamical systems to engineered systems. Special interest in transformative research on complex systems, uncertain or stochastic nonlinear dynamical systems, model order reduction of nonlinear or infinite dimensional dynamical systems, discrete nonlinear dynamical systems, and work with multi- scale multi-physics dynamical systems.

  • The HMSE program supports research on design and performance of structural systems and new technologies for improving behavior, safety, and reliability of structural systems and their resistance to natural and technological hazards.   • The IMEE program focuses on the impact of large-scale hazards on civil infrastructure and society and on related issues of preparedness, response, mitigation, and recovery. IMEE supports research to integrate multiple issues from engineering, social, behavioral, political, and economic sciences, including fundamental research on the interdependence of civil infrastructure and society, development of sustainable infrastructures, and civil infrastructure vulnerability and risk reduction.

  • Bus Efficiency Enhancements Research and Demonstrations
  • The program promotes the development and demonstration of targeted energy efficiency-enhancing technologies – specifically enhanced Electrification of Accessories and improvements in Thermal Management of Bus Bodies – for buses utilized in public transportation. In addition to reducing energy use by transit buses, projects funded could have favorable impacts on meeting the needs of the riding public, public transportation operators, and the American bus industry and its supplier base, while simultaneously advancing the Department’s research goals, which include but are not limited to improving safety, enhancing the state of good repair of transit systems, providing more effective and efficient public transportation service, increasing capital and operating efficiencies, developing and deploying advanced vehicle designs and technology, reducing harmful emissions, and increasing energy efficiency. These projects will support an overarching FTA goal of developing and deploying new and innovative ideas, practices, and approaches for transit buses.
