  • Transformation Initiative: Sustainable Communities Research Grant program
  • This program is seeking applications with cutting edge research in quality, equitable affordable housing development and preservation; transportation and infrastructure planning; and “green,” energy-efficient practices. Priority is given to applications that advance evidence-based research on the effectiveness of Federal programs in these areas, which includes HUD programs, such as HOME Investment Partnerships, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Public Housing, and Choice Neighborhoods Grant programs, and the range of HUD programs that address issues related to sustainability.

  • Healthy Eating Research: Building Evidence to Prevent Childhood Obesity
  • Supports research on environmental and policy strategies with strong potential to promote healthy eating among children to prevent childhood obesity, especially among lower-income and racial and ethnic populations at highest risk for obesity. Priority areas of research include: 1) Improving the nutritional quality of snack foods and beverages in schools 2) Reducing consumption of sugary beverages 3)Protecting children from unhealthy food and beverage marketing 4) Increasing access to affordable healthy foods in underserved communities.

  • Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad:  Short-Term Projects
  • This program supports overseas projects in training, research, and curriculum development in modern foreign languages and area studies for groups of teachers, students, and faculty engaged in a common endeavor. Short term projects may include seminars, curriculum development, or group research or study. The priority for this program is: Specific Geographic Regions of the World. A group project funded under this priority must focus on one or more of the following geographic regions of the world: Africa, East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific, the Western Hemisphere (Central and South America, Mexico, and the Caribbean), East Central Europe and Eurasia, and the Near East.

  • The New Civics
  • This program aims to support research that deepens our understanding of educational and other influences on civic action, that attends to social inequalities in civic education and civic action, and that has the potential to shape future research and practice in these fields. This program also aims to create occasions for scholars’ learning, inquiry, and exchange – to strengthen the research community and its connections to educational policy and practice.

National Science Foundation (4/12/13)

  • Broadening Participation Initiation Grants in Engineering 2013 (BRIGE)
  • The program is designed to promote the development of early career faculty who will become champions for diversity and broadening participation of underrepresented groups in engineering throughout their careers. BRIGE awards will enable early career faculty to integrate effective diversity and broadening participation strategies in their engineering research, education, and innovation activities. Proposals should include engineering research projects that use innovative ways to attract and retain members of underrepresented groups to careers in engineering, especially at the advanced degree level. The proposed research should describe how these broadening participation activities will strengthen the quality of the research and how the research activities will promote diversity. PIs will be expected to develop a capability to serve as role models for promotion of broadening participation and as mentors for members of underrepresented groups that will make up the new generation of engineers.
