Final grades, exams or academic progress are not directory information and are protected under FERPA.

Parents do not have access to this information unless the student has given authorization through the Authorization to Disclose Information (FERPA) Form

Grades for students are only given to parents with valid FERPA pins.

The parent can request this information via phone or in writing from the Office of the University Registrar.

The current semester's grades will only be given and will be mailed to the address indicated on the Authorization to Disclose Information (FERPA) form.

To view or pay your child's bill, the student must set up an outside party as an authorized user.

FERPA regulations apply to minors enrolled in a post-secondary institution as they would for an individual age 18 or older.

Parents of a child less than 18 years of age do not have access to these educational records unless the student has given authorization through the Authorization to Disclose Information (FERPA) Form.

  • If the information requested during an emergency is necessary to protect the health and safety of the student, the university will release non-directory information.
  • Student Outreach & Support should also be contacted in the case of a crisis or emergency.

Without a signed Authorization to Disclose Information (FERPA) form by the student, you can request directory information.

The student, however, has the right to withhold any directory information from any third party.

  • The enrollment status of a student, i.e. part-time, full-time, etc., is considered directory information and may be obtained by third parties so long as the student has not withheld directory information from third parties.
  • Enrollment verifications may be obtained through the National Student Clearinghouse.

We cannot give FERPA pins over the phone.

Your student will need to send an email from their UTC email account to requesting the pin. The Office of the University Registrar will reply with the pin.
