Campus Visit (Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Auburn Campus):   Dr Jake Williamson, Assistant Vice President of Student Services, from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Auburn Campus, will be at UTC to meet with interested students. Exploring Health Professions:  Curious about the 39 different health career opportunities available to UTC students following graduation? 

Explore your options (from Doctor of Medicine and Occupational Therapy to other health professions such as Assistive Technology, Health Informatics, Rehabilitation Counseling, Public Health, Art Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology) in this information session.  All require post-baccalaureate education or training (ranging from 12 months in length for certificate programs to 7 years for doctoral programs), but very few require significant coursework/degrees in the life/physical sciences.   Learn more about what these health professionals do, admissions requirements, and how you can fit the prerequisites into your current degree track.

Pre-Health Orientation:  Intended for first- and second-year students who are interested in going into health professional schools/programs, this information session introduces the requirements for these programs and provides information on areas you should be working on now to make you a competitive applicant.

Health Professional School Application Process:  Intended for those students applying to health professions schools/programs in the next 2 years, this information session provides advice and tips for making your application as strong and competitive as possible – covering such topics as competitive GPAs, centralized application services, content and timing of admissions tests, experiences/achievements, letters of recommendation, personal statement, cost, application verification, and timely submission of applications.

... in the 2017 application cycle, AMCAS verified 51,680 applications to allopathic medical schools?

... the verification time (which can range from 2-8 weeks) will impact when programs/schools receive your application?

... most application systems calculate all initial and repeated courses into your GPA?

... you have to wait 90 days to retake the DAT?

... there are fees associated with secondary applications?

Campus Visit (South College School of Pharmacy):  Ms Lori Brown, Admissions and Student Outreach Coordinator, from South College School of Pharmacy (Knoxville, TN) will be at UTC to meet with interested students.  Please stop by to introduce yourself, get information about South College's program, and have your questions answered.

 

Ms Brown will also have a table set up in the UC Lobby (1:00 - 3:30) to answer questions and provide information.

Pre-Health Academic Planning Workshop:  Occurring before spring registration opens, this workshop will help students plan health professional school/program prerequisites into their four-year academic plans.  Students will also build a timeline of courses leading to a proposed admissions exam date (e.g. MCAT or DAT), and schedule an outline of application deadlines.  Attendees should bring a laptop or a copy of their MyMocsDegree, and a copy of the Clear Path for their declared (or tentative) degree.
